Head Coach Chip Fishback begins his 15th season at the helm of the William Smith squash program. He welcomes back 11 Herons from last year's roster and adds five new players.
This year's roster includes five seniors, Olivia Beckwith, Rosemary Chandler, Courtney Leous, Anne Habecker and Lucia Rowe. The Herons will look to their seniors for leadership and experience in the upcoming year. Beckwith played eight matches at the No. 2 spot last season. Leous posted an 8-5 overall record in 2011-12, including four wins at No. 4 and a 3-0 record at No. 5.? Habecker logged a 6-7 overall record, going 2-1 at No. 4 and 3-1 at No. 6. Rowe played seven matches at the No. 3 spot.
Also returning for William Smith is junior Caroline Moxley who played 20 of the Herons' 21 matches at the top spot. Sophomore Andrea Tran picked up one win at the top spot last year and played 12 matches at No. 2. Sophomore Molly Doran also will look to build on a solid rookie season. She played in 16 matches last year at Nos. 7-9.
Juniors Ginny McGermott, Hannah Meyer and Tyler Mitchell are all studying abroad this semester, but will return to the squad for the spring portion of the schedule.
William Smith welcomes four first-years, Erin Casey, Katie Hill, Rachel Newman and Justine Shank, as well as junior Maddie Waters, to the team this year. They will all be fighting to break into the starting lineup.
After its opening weekend, the William Smith squash team will travel to Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., to compete in the 2012 Bard Round Robin on Nov. 17-18. The Herons will then complete the fall semester portion of their schedule by taking part in the Wesleyan Round Robin Dec. 1-2.
