WEINER ASSERTS REGISTER'S CLAIM ROMNEY "COULD FORGE COMPROMISES" AND "MANAGED OLYMPICS" IGNORES KEY FACTS AS WELL AS OBAMA'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND ECONOMIC AGENDA NOT BASED ON "TRICKLE DOWN"
WASHINGTON and DES MOINES, Iowa, Oct. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --?Robert Weiner, National Democratic strategist and former Clinton White House spokesman, asserted that today's Des Moines Register editorial endorsing Gov. Romney because he "could forge the compromises in Congress," ?"ignores his record.? He vetoed 800 bills of the Massachusetts legislature and had a 34% approval when he left office -- the reason he did not run for reelection as Governor.? Bill Clinton by contrast, left the Presidency with a 65% and 70% approval rating according to the same major polls."
Weiner also criticized the paper for asserting that Romney "successfully managed the Winter Olympics." ?Weiner counters, "It is largely unreported that his claimed 'profit' of $100 million was based on his receipt of U.S. Senate tax support of $1.3 billion ? otherwise he had over a billion dollar loss."? Weiner points out that "Senator John McCain said that Gov. Romney 'fleeced the Treasury' for the Olympics.? There is enormous mythology about his Olympic success," Weiner contends.
Weiner concludes, "I was surprised the Register did not look at the improving jobs picture, the reversal of policies causing the economic crash the President inherited, the rescue of the auto industry, the courageous decision to use solo special ops to get bin Laden, the withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan, starting no new wars, and assuring a fairer tax policy that does not 'trickle down' from the rich, as factors that mandate an endorsement of President Obama."
(Weiner was a spokesman in the Clinton White House for six years, and earlier, was a senior staff aide to Congressmen John Conyers, Charles Rangel, Ed Koch, was a committee chief of staff for Rep. Claude Pepper, and was a political aide to Sen. Ted Kennedy. He is now President of Robert Weiner Associates Public Affairs and Issues Strategies.)
